All the Way Home
August 4, 2008 by Nicki Faulk
Courtesy of Lori with the SA VA Team:
As volunteers honor our returning heroes by taking them fishing deep in the American wilderness, wounded veterans discover that sharing stories around a campfire helps them adjust to life back home.
This inspiring film was shown this July in Congress to help lawmakers understand some of the issues facing our returning soldiers and has been recommended by our country’s leading veterans advocacy groups.
This video is available on DVD through the Soldiers’ Angels Store, and costs $25.00 (this includes shipping).
Give A Veteran Some Tank Support
July 24, 2008 by Nicki Faulk
I received the following release via Lori at the SA VA Team:
Soldiers’ Angels VA Team Announces New Project
PASADENA, CA July 19, 2008 – Thousands of troops are returning home and making regular trips to their local VA Hospital for evaluation, treatment or rehabilitation, and regular health care. With the high cost of gas, these vital trips are becoming more and more of a burden for some veterans.
Now the Soldiers’ Angels VA Team is stepping up to help with the Tank Support program. Grateful Americans can help give a veteran some “tank support” by purchasing a gasoline gift card. All gas cards received will be sent to the VA Hospitals across the country to help ensure returning OEF/OIF Veterans get the checkups and medical care they need.
“It’s so important that our returning heroes get regular evaluations and basic healthcare after having been in combat,” says Soldiers’ Angels founder Patti Patton-Bader. “The Tank Support program is an important way to help veterans to stay on top of their ongoing healthcare needs.”
Supportive Americans can help returning veterans by purchasing a $10.00 gas card today at any chain gas station in their area, or ordering online through www.svmcards.net and using the shipping address below. People can also make a donation to the Soldiers’ Angels Veterans’ Support Team at www.soldiersangels.org and indicate that it is for the Tank Support program.
Gas cars should be mailed to:

June 20, 2008 by Nicki Faulk
Lori with the Soldiers’ Angels VA Team emailed me with this bit of news:
An important program launched by companies in the information technology (IT) industry to educate, train, certify and provide job placement assistance for returning veterans. Military who successfully complete the Creating Futures program will have the knowledge and skill level they need to start a rewarding career in IT.
Creating Futures is free for all participants. The cost is covered by organizational sponsors such as HP, Xerox and Ricoh.
The Creating Futures program is tailored to help individuals with various levels of skill. Individuals who have honed their computer skills in the military will be taught how to transfer those skills to civilian life, and those who are new to IT will be taught the basic skills they need to pursue a career in information technology.
Returning veterans interested in participating in the program should visit www.creatingfutures.us for information on how to participate.
Great news!!!! Thanks, Lori!

Farewell Party at Ft. Rucker for the 46th – APRIL 19th
April 18, 2008 by Nicki Faulk
Courtesy of Lori, Soldiers’ Angels Southeastern US VA Team Leader and CTL, there will be a farewell party for the 46th Eng. Btl. at Fort Rucker tomorrow, Saturday April 19.
Per her post to the Alabama forums:
The party will start at 5 pm and will be held at Lake Tholocco on the west beach. If you are attending, please be sure that you have your drivers license, tag receipt or registration and proof of insurance to get on base. I have made arrangements at the Jameson Inn – 334-774-0233 – if you would like to stay the night on Saturday. Tell them you are with SA and they will give you the discounted rate.
So far we have about 20 confirmed Angels that will be there. This is going to be a huge party!!! The count for soldiers and families is 368 plus or minus. I know that there will be 70 PGR in attendance and the military liaison to Governor Bob Riley will be attending. AND a local radio station inadvertently informed the public that they are invited and welcome to attend!!!
The FRG has planned this to be a luau and the following is the itinerary they have in place:
5 – Greetings
5:30 – eat
6 – limbo & dance
6:10 – luau performance
6:10-7 – luau activities
7 – awards ceremony
7:30 – luau performance
7:40 – kids performance
8 – enjoy luau activitiesI know there will be fireworks on the lake as well.
Fort Rucker isn’t far from places in GA, FL, and MS so you Angels are welcome to come as well!!
…
There will be an area where SA will set up tables for crafts for the children, sign up for the soldiers and potential Angels.
I will be the one in the corner praying we have enough food!! Smile I’m wearing my black SA t-shirt, short dark brown hair, glasses and pleasingly plump! Seek me out because I have a feeling I will be like a butterfly and flittering all over the place tomorrow!
Sounds like a good time to be had by all! Thanks, Lori, for the details and all your hard work!
